The Wonder of Forest Bathing: Shinrin-Yoku

Forest Bath With Green Plant Leaf Forest Therapy + Woodland Photography
Have you ever experienced the wonder of forest bathing?  With Shinrin-Yoku, you are literally taking in the forest atmosphere for healing and holistic wellness.  Developed by the Japanese in the 1980s, taking a forest bath is both prevention for underlying health problems, as well as an alternative healing approach to modern medicine.  After all, what can be more therapeutic than the ancient healing therapy of the trees and forest?

Just like earthing, which you can read about here, I was taking forest baths long before it was a thing and became popularized.  Nature is my healing therapy.  Absorbing the healing vibes of mother earth is my medication.

I was Baker Acted last year in Florida for four-days due to suicidal depression.  After I was released, one of the things that got me through it was forest bathing and hiking.  I would spend hours and hours wandering around the forest laying in the grass and earthing, photographing wildflowers, and working out my issues with the fairies.  It was a time of healing and grace for me.  Healing with the fairies can be a very loving and nuturing thing!

When you read about shinrin-yoku, this is the green energy healing that is spoken so highly of!  Rooted in ancient tradition, forest bathing is a healing modality used by shamans around the world as a natural herbal remedy for healing the mind, body, and soul in unison.  You can read more about my work as a faerie shaman here.

Taking a forest bath isn't about a quick fix (though it certainly can be), it's about going slow and slow living.  It's about taking in the moment in a natural environment.  Not only do I use it for physical healing for aches and pains, I use it as an emotional release to heal past lives and soul retrieval.  If you've been reading my blog for some time, you know that walking the forest floor is my personal form of therapy.  When I say that I'm going to therapy, my kids know that it means that I'm heading out for a hike or a nice, long nature walk or woodland photoshoot to ground my energy and root chakra.

Any exposure to nature is naturally healing and effective.  Have you ever went to the beach in a foul mood and felt something shift inside you when you arrived?  That's the healing power of the ocean.  You can read more about it here, in the Mermaid Detox Diet.  The ocean has a different healing vibe than the woods, mountains, and streams but, at the end of the day, it's all nature's healing therapy.

Taking a walk in nature and absorbing the feel-good vibes of the elementals is just plain good for you!  It boosts your mood and spirit instantly.  It makes you feel like you can do anything and that anything is possible.  It clears your chakras and your soul's meridians.  You'll walk away feeling restored and balanced.

The Wonder of Forest Bathing: Shinrin-Yoku

So, now that you know what Shinrin-Yoku is, how does one take a forest bath?  Forest bathing is the most natural thing in the world!  Simply step out into the world of nature.  Head out to your local nature preserve or woodland and start walking.  Remember to go wildly and slow and take your time about it.

As you're walking the forest floor, absorb it, and pay attention to how your body feels.  Touch things.  The bark on a tree.  Walk barefoot in a grassy meadow with wildflowers.  Snap photographs of egrets and make a wish on dandelions in the springtime.  Just simply allow yourself to flow with it.  Let your mind wander in the ramblings of nature as you watch a gopher tortoise walk the trail or a family of ducks gathering on a log in a lily pad infused pond.  Absorb it.  Feel it.  Enjoy it.

That's all you have to do right now.  You will enter a meditative state free of the cares and worries of the world.  Allow your body to relax as the anxiousness leaves your body.  Sit on a mushroom growing log fostered by the dampness and shade of the trees.  Sit underneath the canopy and feel your mood changing.  If you're comfortable, feel free to call on the nature spirits.

I've had many great experiences with the faerie folk and the tree gnomes as I stroll leisurely down fern trail. They allow me to vent and work out my problems with them.  They absorb my toxic, ego-based emotions and harsh feelings in order to perform a Reiki healing on me through my green nature therapy.

The Elementals have your very best interest at heart and can boost your forest bathing experience through energy healing and innovative ideas.  Where something in your life is lacking, they restore the balance from within.  They perform miracles in nature.  Whether it be a tiny pinecone in your hand, the feel of tree bark, or the elegance of a full moon on a nighttime nature hike and moon ritual, the fairies, and the forest can heal you from within.  Spend time in nature today and give it a try!
