Life As a Solitary Green Witch!

Summer by the Pool and Backyard Adventures + Florida Style Living

This time around, I thought it be fun to share summer by the pool and backyard adventures + Florida style living with everyone! As my daughter pointed out, I'm really behind on my photo editing these days.

Whenever I take a break from blogging, my photography duties really tend to fall by the wayside.  What most people don't know, including my daughters, is that the photo editing process is time-consuming.  Most people don't get to see all the behind the scenes stuff that goes into blog photography.

Most people think I take some photographs and then I'm done.  That is so not the case!  It takes hours of pouring through photographs and labeling them plus adding photo filters that are natural and fitting to my subject.  The majority of the time that subject is outdoor photography!

Today, I thought I'd share some bits and pieces from my personal life and family photo albums.  By the way, I'm not complaining about the work that goes into my blog.  I love taking snapshots of the family and nature in full bloom!

I love capturing the little details that go into the fun of lifestyle photography!  Honestly, I see the world as one big photoshoot and playground for learning.

This summer, we've all been hanging around the pool a lot and playing music.  I bought a kiddie pool for Baby Lilly (my granddaughter) for when she comes over and we've already gotten a great deal of use out of it at the old house on Bay Street and in my new tiny blue house too!

Maybe this will inspire and motivate me to get moving on the photo editing process.  If you're interested, I've been using BeFunky photo editing software since 2012!  I think it's safe to say that it's trustworthy and a lot of fun to play with if you like photography.

To be honest, I never really set high goals for summer!  Unless you count hanging out with my daughters and granddaughters by the pool and having backyard adventures with a frozen margarita in my hand a summer goal.

My summer hashtag goals are to spend time with the kiddos and family, take lots of pictures, and to live in the moment!  I would say it always involves a kiddie pool, sunsets on the Dunedin Causeway, enjoying the summer storms that roll in almost every single day, and just enjoying each other's company.

What are your goals for summer as it begins to wind down?  I'd love to hear about it, especially if you live in another place where the elements of nature all come into play!

I know last year I was in Rhode Island at this time and you could literally feel summer leaving and fall closing in on us.  It was a magical sight to see!

There are times where, when this coronavirus thing is over, I think I might like to travel and see the world.  For the most part, I really enjoy staying in my own backyard with the essentials of living in a tiny, seaside fishing village in Florida.

Maybe I'm lazy, ha!  It's the slow summer living in Florida.  Long days filled with heat and humidity and nights tinged with the memory of golf cart rides and fireflies.  It makes you kind of want to stick around and stay right where you are, exactly where you need to be.

Speaking of heat and humidity:  Did you read my latest post?  Read, Wearable Nature: My Favorite Summer Hairstyle For Heat and Humidity!

Since I've been taking so many summer by the pool snapshots, I plan on giving you a post on that soon, with lots of cute pictures.  My family is very laidback, chill, and relaxed for the most part.  Living in Florida kind of makes you that way.

We have this tradition every summer where my kiddos and their babies all get-together for a pool party with frozen margaritas, fairy lights, barbecue, and great indie music.  It's something we've been doing for years and naturally, that turns into another mother-daughter photo shoot.

In my family, especially when it comes to me and my oldest daughter, we have a tendency to create bucket lists for every season of life.  My oldest daughter happens to be a Pisces astrological sign so she's got that mermaid energy down of being a dreamer and a planner!

Me, on the other hand, hates making plans!  I'm an Aries sun sign so I'm pretty much all about short-term goals and living in the moment.  If I make plans at all, I tend to pencil them in.

When Angeleah and I gab on the phone for hours, I tend to get swept away by her dreamy, receptive nature!  I get excited and swept up in her plans.

So, now we just settle on one thing!  We just know at some point all of us are going to get together once for a pool party and it usually always happens.  The only reason it didn't happen last year was that I was out of state for the summer, which almost never happens.

We do have this one long-standing item on our bucket list that we'd both really like to check off.  We want to write down something we want to release in one of those lighted lanterns and let it float over the sea as a family.

In our case, we'd really like to write a message to Baby Noah, who would now be three-years-old if he were still alive.  I wrote a little about him in my post, Summer Love: A Journal of a Seasonal Shift In My Life, yesterday!

I feel like doing this sacred ritual as a family would really help give us all healing and closure.  I don't know why, but it always feels like he is with us, watching us do things as a family, watching over his mama and baby sister.

To give you the short of it, my daughter Veronica lost her baby a few years ago at only two-months-old.  You never really get over something like that, but it feels good to do things that make him feel included and part of the family anyway.  I feel like he is definitely smiling down at us like the sweet little angel that he is!

To me, that's what summer is all about.  It's spending time with family, slowing down and enjoying the moment, and creating childhood magic and memories for the little ones.  At the heart of everything, it feels like the fairies are in the background and all around us!

I believe that since the faerie folk love children, plants, and animals, they participate in the happy memories and magical moments we're creating.  They make summer timeless somehow!

It's nice to have the fey around as a weird piece of furniture in my everyday life!  I like that they watch the kiddos run through sprinklers, light up the backyard with sparklers, and drink homemade pink lemonade.

In the midst of all this beauty is Baby Noah, watching over the family and sending us his love.  It's nice to feel his sweet energy with us and all around us as we enjoy summer by the pool and backyard adventures + Florida style living!
