What It's Like to Work With Goddesses + Goddess Energy

This is a blog post on what it's like to work with goddesses + goddess energy! If you're just getting into witchcraft, working with the goddess-head might be a little intimidating at first. Luckily, I'm here to clear up any myths and misconceptions you may have about working with patron goddesses and how they might fit into your spiritual life.

First of all, not everyone who starts out as a baby witch will work with goddess energy healing. Many people who come to the craft lean toward atheism or are still figuring out their belief systems. In my case, coming from a Christian background, I knew from the start that I would be working with goddesses!

I've always been one of those people who believed in unicorns, dragons, fairies, and even love. I never had a problem with believing in the unseen, even before I had the physical proof to back it up. I remember going to church and just "knowing" that God was with me.

That's the key to working with goddess-like energies. You need to have some kind of upfront belief in them in the first place. There has to be a level of trust there, to begin with.

That being said, working with goddesses is completely different than working with angels, mermaids, or even gnomes of the woodland! It's a completely different field of being in which to connect that often consists of ascended masters, fairy queens, and Celtic goddesses all rolled into one.

There are many different types of goddesses, including triple goddesses, often known as the mother, maiden, and the crone (wise woman). There are also dark goddesses, which will work to plunge you into shadow work, baneful moon spells, and hexes.

There really are goddesses for everyone! I have many patrons but do have a few that stand out as daily goddesses for me. This means that I work with them the most, I've devoted goddess worship altars to them, and I have an extremely close relationship with them.

For me, my main patron goddess is Goddess Fortuna, also known as lady luck! She has the biggest altar in my home, which is a multi-purpose altar working for many different areas of my life. Fortuna brings love, luck, fortune, and fame into my life.

Head and shoulders above the rest, I also have a romance altar that I've dedicated to Goddess Freya, who is in charge of my romantic love life and all matters of intimacy. Freya is how self-love and romantic love go together!

For sea witch magic, I have a sea witch altar dedicated to Goddess Morgan Le Fay in my bathroom with dried herbs, seashells, and tiny witch statues. Morgan Le Fay helps me with mermaid magic and sea witchery. She prompts me to go on field trips to piers and beaches to collect shells and driftwood for her natural altar.

For lunar magic, I work with Goddess Rhiannon and Goddess Isis for full moon magic and secret moon rituals. I don't typically keep an indoor altar for these particular lunar deities, as they prefer either a forest altar in the woodland or an outdoor moon altar "only" during a moon phase.

For green witch magic, I often work with the fairy queens! The majority of the time, I work with Goddess Nemetona, Aeracura, and Goddess Aine the most. I even have a framed artist rendition of Nemetona in my front room, guarding the tiny home that I live in.

For money magic, my go-to goddess is Goddess Lakshmi!  Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity, luxury, and blessings.  For her, a simple prosperity altar works best, like a coin purse you can stuff money stones into.

For dark magic, my patron goddesses are Goddess Kali Ma and Goddess Hecate!  I often work with Kali Ma for female empowerment and banishing spells.  I work with Goddess Hecate for graveyard magic and herbal witchcraft.  Dark goddesses typically prefer a minimalist altar or none at all!

There are many more goddesses that I work with, but these are the ones that I've established a working relationship.  These are the goddesses I've poured my heart out to the most, the ones that know all my secrets and deepest, darkest desires.

What It's Like to Work With Goddesses + Goddess Energy

To begin working with goddesses, you must first share something with them that no one else knows, preferably something you'd rather go to the grave with.  Goddesses share the same motto:  You show me yours and I'll show you mine!

Go into it knowing that you are going to have to get real with them and you can't go wrong!  I always introduce myself to new goddesses by wearing my heart on my sleeve.

Another thing that's important to note: You can't go into goddess work asking for stuff right off the bat!  You must first establish a relationship with them and follow their goddess guidance.  This might mean passing tests or doing things outside your comfort zone.

They also like honesty.  I hate to say this, but goddesses don't care if you lie in your daily life so long as you don't lie to them.  If you feel uncomfortable doing something or need to put a boundary up with them, don't be afraid to say so.

To work with goddess energy, you must first understand the inner workings of the goddess.  Goddesses are a lot like humans, except they have amplified emotions and feelings.  If they are pissed at you, they will get really pissed at you until you can find a way to make it up to them.

If a goddess loves her patron, she will love you with all her heart!  I'm talking love, loyalty, and affection in leaps and bounds.   This also means she will offer you the umbrella of her protection and some goddesses will even get revenge for you in cases where it's needed.

Goddesses love gifts!  Some will be very specific about what they want, while others might keep you guessing.  All goddesses love herbs, flowers, and gemstones as far as the eye can see, so that gives you something ornate to work with when setting up an altar for them.

Each goddess has an individual personality and human-like qualities.  I highly recommend taking the time to get to know each goddess that you work with on a personal basis.  Think in terms of making them your best friend, if she is open to it!

She is highly intuitive, feminine energy much like the high priestess tarot card and with that comes great responsibility for her patrons.  Working with goddess energy is intense energy that you should be able to feel and connect with right away!

Again, the energies are different with each goddess that I work with!  For example, Goddess Freya has sparkling, effervescent energy that reminds me of champagne bubbly while Goddess Nemetona has deep, reverent energy that reminds me of the crown chakra on a spring day.

Each goddess comes with her own personal set of beliefs and rules she would like her patrons to live by.  I've also found that goddesses will deepen their connection with their patron over time.  They need to know you're in it for the long haul!

Another thing you need to know about working with goddesses is that they will often scout you out and then make contact with you first.  If suddenly you feel an urge to look up information about the Morrigan, it's probably not a coincidence.  This means she is calling you!

Goddesses will often send signs and symbols, usually with spirit familiars or animal totems they work with.  Rhiannon often sends me owl symbolism to let me know she is with me and is both clear and direct in her orders to me.

Working with goddess energy means you will have a direct connection to the Other Side and in some cases, the fairy realm.  You'll have the power to change things in your life in areas where you have previously felt helpless or out of control.  Goddesses are all about female empowerment and stepping into your power, sometimes with heels on.

What is it like to work with the goddesses? It's an intense, emotional rollercoaster ride you don't want to get off of, and I for one, usually hate rollercoasters!  It will change your life forever, in a good way :)
